Media education

Knowledge, skills, attitude

Digital media are part of our students' everyday lives. At Georgianum, media education is therefore understood as a joint task for all subjects: the aim is to enable young people to use media safely, critically and responsibly.

The Georgianum's media education concept is based on three key concepts:

  • Knowledge: How do media work? What are the opportunities and risks of digitalisation? What rules apply, for example, to data protection or copyright?
  • Skills: How do I conduct reliable research, present results, collaborate in digital spaces and secure my data?
  • Attitude: How do I treat others with respect, recognise problematic developments and reflect on my own usage behaviour?

Media education should not be reduced to the operation of devices, but should always focus on values and a sense of responsibility.

Interdisciplinary media modules

Key content is taught in compact
media modules that are anchored in the media curriculum. They
address topics from the pupils' everyday lives, e.g.:

  • My communication – chatting respectfully and safely
  • My security – passwords, data protection and privacy
  • My sources – researching and evaluating information
  • How others use my data – tracking, profiles and advertising
  • How others influence me – filter bubbles, fake news and opinion forming
  • How other people's rights affect me – copyright and personal rights

Digital equipment
and teaching

Almost all classrooms at Georgianum are equipped with modern presentation technology; IServ serves as the central learning environment and communication platform. Tablets are gradually being introduced from Year 5 onwards (at the end of the second half of the school year) and support both face-to-face and distance learning.

The experience gained from the daily use of the digital infrastructure is continuously incorporated into the further development of the media concept.
