Working groups (AGs)

As an open all-day school, Georgianum offers a wide range of sports, music, cultural and technical working groups. Up to three working groups can be selected for a half-year period.

Participation in selected clubs is valid for the respective half-year and is noted in the school report if attendance is regular.

Chor

If you like music and enjoy singing, then the choir is the right place for you.
(Years 5–10)

At the beginning of each rehearsal, we warm up with short, often funny songs/melodies. Sometimes we also sing a canon. Then we practise songs that we would like to perform at the Advent or summer concert, for example. At the end of the rehearsal, we sing "request songs" from the songbook. You can contribute ideas and requests for songs at any time!

We perform together at concerts and events.

Georgie's Groove Orchestra (school band)

The school band is open to all pupils who enjoy making music together.

Making music together in a band is always fun anyway. What makes GGO special are the opportunities to perform in public within the school, but also outside, such as at the Lingen Old Town Festival. Another highlight is the international exchange with the Emij Young Orchestra (EYO) from our twin town Elbeuf Sur Seine (Normandy).

  • Important requirements are basic knowledge of an instrument or a love of singing.

The club is primarily aimed at pupils in Years 5–9. Other year groups are also welcome by arrangement.

JOE – das Jugendorchester Emsland

Do you play an instrument and want to make music with others? Then JOE, the Emsland Youth Orchestra, is just right for you! JOE is both the Georgianum school orchestra and a joint project with the Emsland Music School. That's why not only Georgianum students play in the orchestra, but also students from other schools in Lingen. And that's exactly what makes our musical mix so exciting!

Every Monday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., around 30 students from different schools meet up with us. Whether you play the violin, trumpet, flute, drums or something else entirely, if you play a string, wind or percussion instrument, you are very welcome to join us!

The JOE is led by Wanja Brinkmann (music school) and Alexander Neubauer (Georgianum). We rehearse in the Georgianum auditorium and occasionally there are special Saturday rehearsals. There we can make music together in a relaxed atmosphere without any school stress, and of course a large pizza party is part of the lunch break.

Musically, there is something for everyone: we play classical pieces, but also film music, cool pop and rock arrangements and much more. With this mix, we perform at various events, such as our annual Christmas and summer concerts or at events outside of school. So come along and become part of a strong musical community – we look forward to seeing you!

Date: Mondays, 4:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria

Percussion Groovebox

Would you like a break from sitting and thinking in class? Then come to the percussion club. Here you will have the opportunity to play rousing grooves with a wide variety of rhythm instruments. It doesn't take much to make music. Anything you can get your hands on can produce sounds: drainpipes, brooms, buckets, chairs, barrels, old car tyres and pencils are never safe from being used as percussion instruments. But classic percussion instruments such as shakers, guiros, rattles, tambourines, congas and bongos also guarantee a rousing groove and can accompany catchy melodies on mallet instruments (xylophone, metallophone, PVC pipe drum). In the percussion club, we will play rhythmic pieces in various ways, but we will also compose our own grooves and pieces together using a wide variety of instruments and everyday objects.

Date: Mondays 1:30–2:30 p.m. in MU 1 / cafeteria

Contact: Mr Neubauer

Rudern

Rowing combines technical precision, strength, endurance and concentration – a full-body workout on the water.

We learn rowing technique and boat knowledge, train balance in singles and coordination in a team. Community and fair play are also important: the new boathouse invites you to linger; highlights include "Youth Training for the Olympics" and St. Nicholas Day rowing. Those who want more can also train outside of the club. There is also an exchange programme with our partner club in Burton (England), which provides valuable international insights.

Date: Tuesdays 2:30–5:30 p.m. (winter: 2:00–3:30 p.m.) in the GTRV boathouse (Jahnstraße 14)

Safe Space

Safe Space is essentially about strengthening each other and unleashing new powers (empowerment). The offer is aimed at all pupils at Georgianum. So if you feel that you are not being heard or seen in everyday school life, Safe Space can be a place for regular exchange of experiences.

The meetings are voluntary and not compulsory, so new participants can join at any time and others can leave. This makes Safe Space a very free space for students.

Interested?

Feel free to drop by one of our meetings spontaneously. The time will be published in the newsletter. There will be no notice board listing the participants in the working group.

Date and location: will be published in the newsletter

Relics is our first band club for pupils in Years 5 to 8.

Making music with other students of the same age is just a lot of fun, as is performing the pieces we have practised in front of an audience.

We practise pieces from different areas of rock and pop music that are relatively easy to play. Our highlights also include several public performances inside and outside the school, such as the Lingen Old Town Festival.

If you have basic skills on an instrument and/or enjoy singing, please feel free to come to a rehearsal.

Schulsanitätsdienst

The school first aid service is an integral part of school life and promotes helpfulness and cooperation. In the club, participants receive thorough first aid training and further qualifications. They learn to take responsibility, think ahead and remain calm in emergencies; at the same time, they develop team spirit, communication skills and empathy.

Assignments take place during breaks and at school events under the supervision of a teacher and complement the school's first aid structures. The certified qualifications are also useful in private and professional life and can strengthen job applications. In addition, the school first aiders take part in the "h.e.l.p." simulation game and carry out a humanitarian project – the basis for certification as a "Humanitarian School".

We meet to practise classical pieces as well as film music and popular music.

Tontechnik GeMixed

The "GeMixed-AG" is aimed at pupils in Year 8 and above who are interested in technology and enjoy taking a look behind the scenes at school events. In the club, participants learn how to use the technical equipment in the canteen and take on technical support roles at school events such as concerts, performances and other functions.

In doing so, they gain practical experience in the areas of sound, lighting and event technology and work responsibly as part of a team.

Schedule: There are no fixed weekly meetings; meetings and assignments are arranged at short notice and in line with upcoming events. This keeps the club flexible and varied.
